Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre in Sandakan was set up in 1964 to rehabilitate orphaned baby orang utan. Set in the lush 4,300 hectare Kabili Sepilok Forest Reserve, the Centre attracts tourists and researchers alike, giving them an opportunity to watch the orang utan up close in their natural habitat. A boardwalk leads you to a viewing gallery and feeding platform where the apes are fed milk and bananas twice a day at 10.00am and 3.00pm by the wildlife rangers. Feeding time also attracts long tail Macaques and sometimes the Pig Tail Macaques. At the centre there is an Exhibition Hall and a daily Video Screening.

Turtles & Orang Utan

Transfer to Crystal Quest Jetty and take approximately 1hrs 15minutes boat ride to Selingan turtle Island. Upon arrival at island, check-in at Selingan island chalet with basic facilities on attached bathroom. After lunch, free at own leisure. Snorkeling and swimming are good suggestion. Snorkeling equipments can be rented at own expense. After dinner, wait at cafeteria till rangers call to witness turtle laying eggs and visit the hatchery. Overnight at Selingan island chalet.

Klias Fireflies River Cruise

Klias Fireflies River Cruise
Located on the Klias Peninsula is the Klias Wetland, a Mangrove Forest Reserve. Within this Mangrove forest reserve live the tree-dwelling animals the 'Proboscis Monkeys". These odd nosed monkeys settle down for the night amongst the trees by the banks of the Klias River offering opportunities for visitors to sight them while cruising along the Klias River. Other riverside residents that may be spotted are macaques, crocodiles, monitor lizards, tree snakes and birds. After dinner at the jetty, board the boat to view the glowing performances of Nature's Christmas Lights - The Fireflies. Return to Kota Kinabalu in the late evening.

An Orang Utan Encounter

The Orang-Utan Rehabilitation Centre is situated at the Nature Interpretation Centre of Rasa Ria Resort. Encompassing an area of 64 acres, and caring for just a handful of Orang-Utans, The Nature Reserve works in conjunction with the much larger center at Sepilok. The Orang-Utans spend most of their day in the forest, but return to the feeding platforms for an easy meal. There are two daily feedings at Rasa Ria which are open for viewing. The food supplied by the centre is purposefully designed to be monotonous and boring in order to encourage the Orang-Utans to start to forage for themselves.

The Lok Kawi Wildlife Park is managed by Sabah Wildlife Department. Occupying an area of 280 acres, it is one of the largest wildlife parks in Malaysia. It is home to a fascinating and varied collection of tropical animals comprising mammals, birds and reptiles. These animals live in large enclosures designed to be like their natural habitat. Water is used as barriers wherever possible, together with low fences and walls camouflaged with vegetation. This open environment concept provides for easy viewing and unique opportunities for wildlife photograpisy.

Kunang Kunang Deluxe River Cruise

Arrive at Kota Klias Jetty, Board boat "Kunang-Kunang" and boat depart from the Jetty. Enjoy the scenery of the Mangrove and the Klias River while having tea or coffee and local cakes. The river cruise will take approximately take 1 to 1 and 1/2hrs. Enjoy a Fun Fishing Experience while cruising along the Klias River.
