Tour Overview

Prior to May 1995, Danum Valley Conservation Area (DVCA) was an informal protected area in the Ulu Segama Forest Reserve of primary, undisturbed, predominantly lowland rainforest with an outstanding complement of Borneo flora and fauna. It was part of the almost one million hectare forest concession assigned to Yayasan Sabah. In 1976, WWF Malaysia suggested that the area be declared a national park. The Danum Valley Conservation Area (DVCA) is a 438 sq. km tract. However, Yayasan Sabah Board of Trustees resolved on November 28, 1980, to leave the area within Yayasan Sabah concession but shall leave it unlogged for the purpose of conservation. Thereafter it is known as “Danum Valley Conservation Area”.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Journey to Danum Valley

  • Early morning tranfer from your hotel/ resort lounge and sent to Kota Kinabalu International Airport for your morning flight (Recommended ETA 0700hrs), met at Lahad Datu Airport upon arrival and proceed to Borneo Nature Tour for registration and briefing.
  • Depart for 2 hours overland journey on gravel road to Borneo Rainforest Lodge.
  • This is largest protected area of lowland dipterocarp rainforest in Sabah, covering 43,800 hectares.
  • On arrival, check into the lodge.
  • Join the slide presentation held in the lodge conference room and thereafter an afternoon Jungle Trek; “Canopy Walkway” 300 meters in length and 26 meters at the higher point, for an up-close observation of the rainforest.
  • Night drive in an open-top vehicle in search of nocturnal animals.
  • Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge (L/D).

Day 2

Adventurous jungle trek to various parts of the valley

  • Morning jungle trek: Trek to the Kadazandusun burial site – (“Coffin Cliff”) proceeding to “View Point” for a bird’s eye view of the area.
  • Descend to the “Jacuzzi Pool” for a refreshing dip.
  • Lunch at the lodge.
  • Afternoon, jungle trek then adjourn to enjoy a relaxing session of “Tubing” down the Danum River.
  • Night walk in search of nocturnal insect and animals.
  • Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 3

Jungle trek for wildlife sighting and night walks in search of nocturnal animals

  • After breakfast, morning jungle trek: Trekking into a trail for wildlife sighting.
  • After lunch, proceed to jungle trek in search for more wildlife. Optional Night Drive (depending on space availability) or night walks in search of nocturnal animals.
  • Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 4

Prepare for return flight to Kota Kinabalu

  • Breakfast.
  • Free and easy activities.
  • Check out and depart for Lahad Datu Aiport a 2 hour’s drive to the Lahad Datu airport for your onward flight to Kota Kinabalu (Recommended ETA 1700hrs).
  • On arrival to Kota Kinabalu, transferred to your hotel/ resort lounge.
