The indigenous people of Sabah are made up of 32 officially recognised ethnic groups with their own unique culture, food and language. To learn about some of these groups, a visit to the Mari-Mari Cultural Village is a must. Framed in a lush forest setting in Kionsom, Inanam, about 20km from Kota Kinabalu, Mari-Mari will immerse you in the history, traditional customs, way of life and belief systems of the Kadazandusun, Rungus, Lundayeh, Bajau, and Murut tribes.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Experience indigenous people’s way of life and cultural performance at Mari-Mari Cultural Village

  • The journey to the Mari-Mari Cultural Village is approximately 40 minutes from Kota Kinabalu.
  • Enter through a suspension bridge that hangs over a flowing river to visit five traditional homes built by the descendants of the tribes they represent.
  • Participate in fun activities at each house, including blowpipe making, tattooing and fire-starting the old-school way, to name a few.
  • You will be treated to a cultural performance right before your last stop at the dining hall to sample authentic and delicious ethnic fare.
  • You will have some time to linger for a bit longer to take photographs and what not before departure.
